What is a configuration file?
A configuration file is a parameter file that stores specifications and settings needed by LED receiver cards to correctly display visuals on LED panels. , These settings, usually stored in a file with the extension RCVBP, include crucial details such as chips, resolution, scanning methods, and pixel mapping specific to the module type and design. Generally, the information is saved in the flash memory of the receiver card.
Without the correct configuration file to offer the parameters, the LED screen module might not display visuals properly.
Here is a P2.5 LED display module RCVBP file for your reference.
How to Obtain a Configuration File?
There are several methods to acquire a parameter file:
Create a Parameter File: Use tools like LEDSetting or LEDVision to create a configuration file. These applications offer comprehensive guides to help you set module, cabinet, and performance parameters, which you can then save as an RCVBP file. For detailed instructions, you can refer to resources like “An Ultimate Guide for Intelligent Setting Using Colorlight LEDSetting” to help you create a new parameter file efficiently.
Read Back from an Existing Receiver Card: If you have a working receiver card with the correct settings, you can use the LEDSetting software to load the previously saved parameter file. Here are some basic steps you can follow, click the button “Read Back” in the main interface of LEDSetting. click “Save” to a file on the local computer.
Contact a Supplier: If you’re unable to create or extract a configuration file, another option is to reach out to the supplier of your LED modules for the appropriate parameter file. Suppliers typically have detailed information about their modules and often create configuration files during the testing phase at the factory. They usually retain these files, ensuring they can provide you with the correct parameter file tailored to your modules before shipment.
How to Save parameter file to local?
No matter you use the Intelligent setting or Read back, once you’ve configured the desired settings using LEDSetting software, you can save the parameter file to your computer:
How to do it? Process steps as follows.
- Run Software LEDSetting then navigate to “Screen Configuration“. Please note you are required to download and install LEDVision. Once installed, you will have access to LEDSetting applications. Currently, LEDVision will provide you with two tools, including LEDSetting and LEDVision, to configure the parameters efficiently.
- When prompted, input either “168” or “777” as the password to gain access to the settings.
- At the main interface of LEDSettting, navigate to “Receiver Parameters” and complete your configuration such as intelligent settings, cabinet settings, performance settings, etc. This step is not a must if you choose to Read back the parameter file from the correct receiver card.
- Click on “Save” and then “Save To Local” to store the RCVBP file on your machine. This file serves as both a backup and a tool for future configurations.
How to Load a Configuration File from Local?
If you already have a configuration file stored locally, employing the Load function allows for a quick retrieval of parameters without the need for repeated creation or extraction efforts.
To initiate this process, begin by launching the “LEDSetting” application. Click on “Load” and subsequently select “Browse” to locate the folder where the RCVBP configuration files are stored.
Next, select the appropriate parameter file and open it. The software will then extract the configuration details from the file, and display them in the interface. This allows for easy access to previously saved configurations, removing the need for repetitive generation or extraction procedures.
The loading function allows for easy access to previously saved configurations, removing the need for repetitive generation or extraction procedures.
How to Send and save parameter to receiving card?
After importing the configuration parameters into LEDsetting, there are two different methods to save them to the receiving card: Temporary save and Permanent Save.
Temporary save
Click “Send” and the parameters will be saved in the receiving card’s RAM. However, these parameters will be lost after the receiving card is restarted. This method is typically used for parameter checking during the configuration process.
Permanent Save
When you click “Save to Receiver“, the parameters will be saved to the receiving card’s FLASH chip. The parameter file will remain after the receiving card be restarted.
LEDsetting will prompt you to confirm this operation to avoid saving incorrect parameters. This method is generally used to prevent parameter loss after the configuration work is completed.
What distinguishes these two methods? Here’s the contrast: The “Save” mode, as depicted in the folliwng image, saves parameters to SD RAM for testing purposes. In comparison, the “Save to Receiver” mode stores parameters to FLASH for site use. Be carefull, the last will overwrite the previous configuration ans sale the data to the hardware.
How to Read back parameter from receiving card?
If the receiving card has a saved parameter file, how can I find out what parameters it contains?
To access detailed information, you can utilize the read-back function. This feature enables the software to retrieve previously saved parameter files from the flash memory of the receiving card. The read-back function efficiently gathers configuration details and displays them on the LEDSetting interface.
How to achieve it?
Using this function is straightforward. Simply click the “Read Back” button and select the network port that is connected to the receiving card. Once you do this, you will be able to see the specific values from the main interface.
It’s important to note that the LEDSettting will only read back the parameter file from the first receiving card connected to the selected port. This ensures that you can accurately access and review the configuration information associated with that particular receiving card.
How to Save parameters to the specified receiving card?
As above mentioned, the parameters file will be saved to all receiving cards controlled by the sending card after you click “Save to Receiver“. However, if you need to save to a specific receiving card, this function cannot be used.
For instance, when the LED display consists of cabinets with two different resolutions, you must save different configuration parameter files to different receiving cards. As shown in the following figure, the LED screen consists of 6 cabinets (In other words, 6 receiver cards) connected to Port 1, and we have to set configuration parameter files RCVBP file 01 for cabinets 1, 2, 5, 6 (referred to as the first type of cabinet), and RCVBP file for cabinet 3, 4 (referred to as the second type of cabinet).
To do this, begin by clicking “Loading” and selecting the corresponding file, for example, Parameter File 1.rcvbp.
After that, Right-click on “Save to Receiver” and select “Port 1” .
Then select the option “Please enter receiver No.” for the Receiver Index as the following image.
Next is to enter the receiver card numbers. In this example, we input “1, 2, 5, 6” for the first type of cabinet. Then, click “Save“. Please note The indexes of multiple receiver cards are separated by “,”.
After saving the parameters to the receiver cards for the first type cabinet, proceed to follow the same steps for the second type cabinet. Please note that the receiver index will be “3, 4,” not “1, 2, 5, 6“. Finally, click “Save” to complete the process.
How to Read back parameters from the specified receiving card?
As mentioned earlier, while we can use the read-back button on the interface to access the parameters of the receiver card, it only retrieves data from the first receiver card connected to the selected port. However, there is another method to obtain configuration information from any receiver card you choose.
The software LEDSetting allows you to read back configuration parameter files from a specified receiving card. This provides greater flexibility and ensures you can access the desired settings without limitations.
To do this, simply click on “Save to Receiver Card“. This action will enable you to select the specific receiver card from which you want to retrieve the configuration parameters. After that, click “Read Back“.
As the above image, the software will read back the parameters of the receiver card NO 5 which is connected to Port 1.
How to Send parameter after modify?
Modifying configuration files can be a time-consuming and demanding task, and it’s easy to forget to save changes, which can prevent you from seeing the updated results.
By selecting “Modify and Send“, LEDSetting automatically sends the parameters to all receiving cards after each adjustment, allowing you to see the changes instantly on the LED panel. This feature is particularly convenient for checking display quality during parameter configuration.
Conclusion
From creating and saving configuration files to loading and modifying them, each step is crucial for achieving the desired visual results.
