Finally, inspect each cabinet after installation to confirm that all connections are secure and that there are no gaps between the units. This inspection is crucial for ensuring proper weatherproofing and preventing moisture from entering the cabinets, especially in outdoor environments.

Once everything is securely fastened and inspected, you can proceed to connect the necessary signal and power cables, setting the stage for the configuration and testing of the LED screen.

Step 6: Connect AC Power Cable

After the LED cabinets are fixed on the steel structure, next is to link power cable to all cabinets.

To fix the AC power cable for the LED cabinet, start by identifying the two power connector ports, some cabinets are with labeled POWER IN and POWER OUT located on the back of the cabinet.

LED screen cabinet power connector port

Generally, there are two power connector ports in the cabinet. We use the AC power Cable to connect the power distribution box to the first cabinet. The first POWER port is designed to receive the main power supply, while another POWER port allows for daisy-chaining additional cabinets or connecting to the next unit in the series.

AC Power cable connection with LED display

After securing all connections, it’s essential to conduct a thorough inspection to confirm that everything is properly wired and safe before powering on the system. Here are some standards you need to follow:

  • AC Power Cable: 3-core 2.5㎡.
  • Wiring configuration: typically, the brown wire should connect to live, the blue wire to neutral, and the yellow-green wire to earth.
  • Load of Power Cable: 3.6KW.

As you can see above, the load of power cable is generally about 3.6KW, so how many cabinets can one AC power cable load?

To determine how many cabinets one power cable can load based on the given power capacity, we start with the total power that each cabinet requires. Here is a simple formula:

Assuming each cabinet has three 300W power supplies, the total power required for each cabinet would be calculated as follows:

Total Power of Each Cabinet=Number of Power Supplies×Power of Each Supply=3×300W=900W

Given that the load capacity of the power cable is approximately 3.6KW (or 3600W), we can then calculate the number of cabinets that can be powered by one cable:

Number of Cabinets=Total Load Capacity / Total Power of Each Cabinet=3600W / 900W=4

Thus, one power cable can support up to 4 cabinets with each cabinet requiring 900W of power. You can use the same formula for 200W Power suppliers.

Step 7: Connect Signal Cable

After the power cable is OK, the next step is to connect the signal cable to the LED display. It is a crucial step in ensuring that the content (Video, text, images, etc ) is transmitted effectively from the control system to the cabinets.

First, connect the laptop, which will serve as the primary source for the video signal, to the LED controller using the appropriate signal cables, which may include HDMI, DVI, or ethernet cable, then connect the output of the controller to the input of the first LED cabinet using the ethernet cables.

led display structure diagram

Once the first cabinet is connected, proceed to daisy-chain the signal to the subsequent cabinets. This typically involves connecting the output port of the first cabinet to the input port of the next cabinet, continuing this process until all cabinets in the installation are linked.

As we know, each output port of the LED controller has a value of Max pixel pitch loading capacity (Max pixel in width and Max pixel in height), so make sure the the total pixel pitchs of cabinets in series must in the range of that value.

Step 8: Configure LED Screen and Send Program

Once all physical connections are made, the next task is to power on the LED display and confirm that each cabinet is functioning correctly. This involves using debugging software to configure the LED screen, which typically comes with the LED control system.

Novastar NovaLCT Screen Configuration

LED Screen Configuration

Here is a list of software you can download to correspond with the control system your LED display uses.

  • Colorlight LED software LEDVsion, iSet, etc: For Colorlight control system. Download here.
  • Novastar LED software NovaLCT, SmartLCT, etc: For Novastar control system. Download here.
  • HUIDU LED software HDPlayer, HDSet, etc: For Huidu control system. Download here.
  • Linsn LED software LEDStudio, LEDSet, etc: For Linsn control system. Download here.

After that, install the software and run it on the computer. Generally, you will get the configuration from the LED screen supplier and the file is already saved to all receiver cards of the cabinets. So you can import the file directly into the software when setting up the screen.

But if you don’t have it or have lost the file, you can still create it using the smart setting function of the debug software. These files are mainly named RCG(Linsn), RCFGX(Novastar), or RCVBP(Colorlight) files. Here is some guide you can follow:

After confirming that the configuration is operating correctly, you can send a program to check whether it can display a whole image.

Step 9: Follow-up inspection

After the outdoor LED display is configured, you still need to look into it carefully to ensure the LED video wall is a normal working condition. Some aspects you need to pay attention to:

  • Environment Abnormal (Is it necessary to be windproof and waterproof?)
  • Overall Steel structure (Loose or solid)
  • Is the cable safe?

After that, the whole Outdoor LED display Installation with cabinet is done.

Indoor LED Display Installation without Cabinet

This installation way involves utilizing individual LED modules mounted directly onto a frame, providing a flexible and customizable solution for various environments. It also eliminates the need for bulky cabinets, allowing for a more streamlined appearance and easier integration into existing architecture. However, you have to assemble LED modules, LED powers, LED receiver cards, and other components.

Advantages

  • More cost-effective, as it reduces the material costs associated with cabinetry
  • Enables precise control over the display size by adjusting it in module increments, whereas cabinet-based installations are limited to fixed cabinet sizes.
  • Make the most of the LED receiver card, and LED power supply, as Cabinet-based installations only allow the receiver card and power supply to be utilized for a separate cabinet.
  • The LED screen looks simpler and thinner.

Disadvantages

  • Need more labor and cost to assemble all components.
  • Without protective cabinets, the LED modules are more exposed to potential damage from impacts or environmental factors
  • More complex, requiring precision to ensure that all modules are aligned correctly and that the connections are secure.
  • Need higher maintenance cost and time.
  • May cause low flatness if the screen is large.
  • Only suitable for indoor installation.

Next, we will explore the process for implementing indoor LED display installations without the use of cabinets.

Step 1: Prepare all Necessary Materials

First, we need to prepare all materials. This is a complete material list for an indoor LED screen installation where the LED modules are mounted on a frame.

  • Ethernet cables
  • AC Power Cables
  • RED Black Power Cable
  • Flat Signal Cable
  • LED Modules
  • LED Receiver Cards
  • LED Sender or LED Video Processor
  • A laptop with debug software installed
  • Bolts
  • Wrench
  • Rectangular Tubes

Step 2: Make & Install Steel Frame

Once all materials are prepared, the next step is to create a steel frame. This is a crucial step that ensures structural integrity and support for the LED modules.

LED display steel frame

Calculate the Size of LED screen

The frame should be designed to accommodate the dimensions of the LED modules. For example, Assuming the LED module you are using has a size of 320*160mm, the dimensions formula as follows:

Height =Quantity of LED modules in vertical * LED modules height
Weight=Quantity of LED modules in horizontal* LED modules Width

To calculate the height of the LED screen, multiply the number of LED modules arranged vertically by the height of each module. For instance, if there are 5 modules stacked vertically, each measuring 0.16 meters, the total height of the screen would be 0.9 meters.

Similarly, the width of the LED screen can be determined by multiplying the number of horizontal modules by the width of each module. If there are 10 modules arranged horizontally, each with a width of 0.32 meters, the total width of the screen would be 3.2 meters.

Accounting for Gaps

Generally, you need to consider the slight gaps and seams that occur between modules and the frame, typically around 10mm. These gaps can affect the overall dimensions of the frame, so it’s important to add the total potential spacing to both the vertical and horizontal calculations.

Final Frame Adjustments

After calculating the total height and width, including the gaps, the final frame dimensions can be determined. In our example, the final size of the whole frame should be:

Width: 3200mm + 10mm = 3210mm

Height: 900mm + 10mm = 910mm

Building the Steel Frame

After we have calculated the size of the frame, you can now welding steel structure with rectangular tubes, which is generally 40x40mm or 40x20mm size.

Each module and power supply contributes to the overall weight, so it’s important to ensure that the frame is robust enough to support the total weight of the LED display.

Installing the steel structure

After the steel structure is welded, we need to install the steel structure on the wall. First we need to align the frame with the marked reference points and secure it in place using heavy-duty bolts and anchors. Then we need to ensure that each connection is tight and the frame is level, making any necessary adjustments before fully tightening the bolts.

Once the frame is securely attached, it’s advisable to perform a final inspection to confirm that it is stable and properly aligned.

Installing the steel structure of LED screen

Step 3: Install the Power Supply

After the steel  frame is installed on the wall, the next step is to install the power suppies.

Connecting DC5v cable to the Power Supply

Before we install the power supply to the steel frame, we need the connect the DV5V cable to the power supply.

Performing this connection prior to mounting simplifies the process significantly, especially if the power supply is positioned at a height where access could be not easy.  By connecting the DC5V cable at ground level, you can ensure a secure and efficient installation, reducing the risk of errors that could occur when working in a constrained space.

Typically, the DC5V cable consists of two wires: a red cable for the positive connection and a black cable for the negative connection. To make the connections, attach the red cable to the “+” terminal of the power output and the black cable to the “-” terminal.

connect DV5V cable to LED screen power supply

Installing the Power Supply to the Steel Frame

Once the DC5V cable is securely connected to the power supply, you can then proceed to mount the power supply onto the steel frame.

First, we need to calculate the load of the power supply to determine how many LED modules can be supported, both horizontally and vertically, based on the power supply’s capacity.

Genearlly there is a standard you can follow:

1pcs AC 200W power supply (5V, 40A, and 200W) can load 4pcs LED module
1pcs AC 300W power supply (5V, 60A, and 300W) can load 6pcs LED module

Next, you need to decide the position of LED power supply according the quantity of LED module in horizontal and vertical direction.

Once the position is confirmed, we can place the power supply to be securely fastened to the rectangular tube using fixing straps or mounted to the side of the rectangular tube or the wall using fixing brackets (with screws) and self-tapping screws.

Installa the led screen power supply to the steel frame

In additional, please ensure the connections should be secure and that power supply is adequately grounded to prevent any electrical issues.

Connecting AC Cables

After mounting, you can connect the AC power cable from the main power source to the power supply, and you have to ensure that all electrical safety protocols are followed.

To connect the AC cable to the power supply, start by linking the power supply to the air switch terminal of the distribution cabinet. From there, you can connect adjacent power supplies in a chain configuration, allowing for a streamlined distribution of power across multiple units.

AC power cable connection for LED Screen installation

It’s important to use a 3-core 2.5mm² cable for these connections, which can support a maximum of 12 units of 300W power each. If your setup exceeds this capacity, you will need to use an additional AC cable to connect another power supply, and you need to start a new chain. As you connect the power supplies, make sure to verify that all connections are secure and properly insulated to prevent any electrical hazards.

Step 4: Install LED Receiver Cards & Cables

The installation of the receiving card is a crucial step in ensuring that the LED display functions correctly and receives the necessary data signals.

Connect Flat cable to Receiver Card

Typically, before installing the receiver card onto the steel frame, we should first connect the flat signal data to the card. using pin interface J1, J2, J3, J4… etc. the qunaity of interface depeond on the receiver card, you need to check the corresponding specification from the manufacture.

Also, you need to follow the connection ways according to the order of the configuration file which is mostly given by the LED supplier.

Connect DC cable to Receiver Card

After that, you need to connect a DV5V cable to the receiver card too, the cable will be soon connect the power supply

Install Receiver Card to the Steel Frame

Once the receiver card is assembled with all cables, the next step is to install them to the steel frame.

Obviously, It is better to secure the receiving card to the designated area on the steel frame, typically near the power supply for easier cable management. Additionally, you also need to check the length of the DC power cables connected in the previous step; they should be long enough to reach the power supply without creating tension or strain.

Similarly, You can fix the receiver card to the side of the rectangular tube using fixing straps or mount it to the wall using fixing plates and screws.

After all Ethernet connections are made, it’s crucial to conduct a final verification of the entire setup. Inspect each connection point to ensure that the cables are securely attached and that there are no visible signs of damage.

Step 5: Install LED Screen Modules

Before installing LED screen modules directly onto a steel frame without cabinets, it’s important to ensure that the frame is clean and free of debris to facilitate proper alignment. Also, we should assemble the modules with the magnets before proceeding to the next steps.

Mounting the LED Screen Modules

Then, we can mount the LED modules at one corner of the frame, securing each module with the appropriate brackets. We also need to connect the flat cable from the receiving card and the DC5V cable from the power output of the power supply. Please ensure the arrow on the back of each module points upwards and to the right as you attach it to the steel structure. In the meantime, you need to check that there are no gaps between modules for a seamless appearance and to maintain a tight fit.
